Today Alltel Wireless announced the introduction of the new Alltel Mobile E-mail solution. This new application, available for a wide variety of Alltel cell phones, provides access not only to consumer web based mail services like AOL, Yahoo!, and Hotmail, but can also be used to access Microsoft Exchange data as well.
Exchange access is supported though the web based OWA portal that many Exchange servers offer, and gives users not only email access, but also over the air synchronization of contacts and calendar appointments. The system also supports the use of Seven's Workgroup Connector, which uses a single machine that acts as a hub for up to 25 email users.
The application is available for many Windows Mobile smartphones as well as other devices, such as the Samsung Delve and Hue, the LG Scoop, and Motorola's V3a and K1m. The application can be downloaded directly to phones free of charge, though its use requires a subscription to an Alltel Smart Choice plan for smartphones, a subscription to the Alltel Connect Pack for feature phones, or a separate US$3.99 monthly fee in lieu of a data plan subscription.
